A PATCH of woodland under threat by a housebuilder can now be classified as ancient, adding a layer of protection to the site.

CAMPAIGNERS fighting to preserve ancient trees located on a historic estate in Peebles have called on Scottish Borders Council to reject a planning application calling for their axing.

CAMPAIGNERS are rejoicing after a bid to flatten trees near a historic house in the Borders was rejected.

When Granton applied for permission in principle (PPP) for 10 flats they described the site as suitable for development because it is not occupied by any mature trees. Granton told Peeblesshire News that no protected trees will be affected and that the remainder of the estate will remain untouched.
